Currarong Pt 2

Arriving at Currarong we were impressed with the place we had rented. It was spacious and the front deck had wonderful views of the ocean including the Currarong Rockpool. Only a hop step and jump from the front gate, the rockpool became a favourite spot to explore.

Tuesday dawned overcast and a little gloomy so we decided to venture from Currarong into the surrounding area. The sun came out allowing for a little swim at Callala Beach (called koala beach by Ella). It was then off to Callala Bay for a coffee at the only cafe in town. Greenwell Point was the next stop where we discovered a playground and wandered around the foreshore all the time waiting for Cath and Aoife to arrive.

Currarong. Pt I.

After having spent the last week in the wilderness that is vodafone coverage, we have returned to blog-land. But rather than deluge you all with a week's worth of stories in one hit, we've decided for a trickle-feed strategy ...

The first part of our adventure was getting to Currarong. The Canberra-Jervis Bay trip has always had two clear options -- the southern route out to Bateman's Bay and up the coast, or the northern route up to Moss Vale and down through Kangaroo Valley. However, we had heard whispers and rumours that the Nerriga-Nowra road is now fully sealed, making the direct route viable (and faster) even on the rain-sodden day that was last Monday.

It turned out that the rumours were true, if somewhat deceptive. Yes, the Nerriga-Nowra road is now sealed, and beautiful, with spectacular sandstone along much of the route and a great waterfall (only partly visible in the mist, see picture). What they didn't tell us was that the road before Nerriga remains unsealed, and is populated by logging trucks and huge potholes. Also, the authorities are yet to take down the signs warning that "the Nerriga-Nowra road is unsuitable for 2WD vehicles, especially in wet weather", giving us unnecessary cause for concern. Anyway, all turned out well and we arrived at our holiday house with a very dirty car but otherwise unscathed...

Stay tuned for more.

Almost There

We're off on holiday to Currarong, the beach just to the north of Jervis Bay tomorrow for a week -- YAH!

Today has been very busy getting ready. While we are gone the kitchen bench is being sanded back and sealed which meant lots of cleaning and moving stuff today - everything off the bench and out of the cupboards then all the drawers out of kitchen and take out the sink.

Car is as packed as much as it can be, just some last minute stuff to be added - cold food stuff, pj's etc. Then after letting in the kitchen guys it's off to drop Pippa at Fuji's house and on our way. Ella is very excited that Aoife, Cath and Eoin will be staying with us down at the beach. I just hope that the weather improves and we get some sunshine...

The other very exciting news is that the kitchen guys will be bringing our NEW table too!!

Chatterbox Katy

Little chicken is beginning to talk. Katy is generally quite chatty often making lots of noise but speaking to you like you should know what she is saying! Her vocab so far includes:
mummy (means mummy and daddy!)
dada
ella
pippa
puppy
cat
fish
neigh
moo
baa
quack
baby
car
brmm
toot
beep
nana
nana (banana)
cheese
please
ta
shoes
wee
go
bye
no

I can also make out Katy parroting my commands to Pippa like sit, away or no!

...and twinkle twinkle little star is her favourite nursery rhyme. Andy and I both have heard her singing (well at least the noises she make are kinda in tune and it's only the first line too!)

Third Time Lucky

The possums have now twice demolished our new vegie seedlings all except the tomatoes. I have just bought our third lot of zucchinis, lebanese cuecumber, basil and snow peas. and as I am working tomorrow it will be up to Andy and the girls to plant them.

Last weekend after speaking to our neighbour we replaced the poa grasses between the driveways. Having planted these grasses last spring, we were really disappointing with them as they only grew a little but looked more like weeds. Although we purchased them from the Botanical garden spring sale, I somehow think someone may have mucked up! In their place we have chosen to plant dianella tasmanica, a flax lily, which is doing exceptionally well in the backgarden. At least they should be well watered with all the rain this month (55mm).
