Celebrating

Just realised that this is post # 1002 on the Nandies Blog. Looking back - our first entry was on the 30th April 2008....8 years ago so thats averaging 125 posts per year or nearly 3 per week but as you know the entries are not quite as regular as that and tend to be posted fairly sporadically in clusters (as time permits!)

Anyway April is a popular birthday month in our household. Pippa turned 12. She is definitely slowing down these days, sleeping more often.

Nana was still here to join in celebrating my birthday. The day started with a great breakfast at Little Oink. We had a very relaxing day topped off with a lovely roast dinner followed by a cleverly decorated 'cake' with candles!!

Soaking up the Sunshine

It was much the same routine as yesterday. We left Nana with the girls while we went for a run. Separately today as Andy wanted to do a long run along the beach to Merimbula then loop back inland through the national park. I was content to do a much smaller run/walk along Lions and Pambula Beach.

Then it was time to hit the surf again. Another beautiful morning was to be enjoyed at Lions Beach.

With Ella struggling to fight off a virus, we spent most of the afternoon reading and watching a DVD.   By late afternoon we took a short stroll up the Pambula River to a spot where Andy and Katy had seen a string ray yesterday. No luck today though so we returned and continued the short distance to the headland to climb Lion Rock before deciding to have fish'n'chips for dinner.

Checking out the Local Spots

Post lunch and relaxation time, we drove through Merimbula to Long Point to the Merimbula Wharf. Located on the southside of the headland, with 180° views of the ocean and Merimbula Lake, this wharf has a reputation for being a great fishing spot. Sadly though we didn't bring our fishing equipment down to the coast with us, so we opted to visit the Aquarium. Set in the basement of the wharf building, the aquarium boasts a 70,00 litre oceanarium plus 27 individual tanks displaying a wide variety os sea life.

Our tour of the tanks didn't take very long and we even did a second lap to get our moneys worth.  By far the most interesting was when the guitarfish stuck its snout up out of the water!

Another display that caught my attention was the exoskeletons of a now decreased resident crayfish over a period of nearly 10 years.

We took advantage of the restaurant / cafe upstairs eating scones and coffee while enjoying the stunning panoramic ocean views. A lovely way to finish off the afternoon!
